A multi-media awareness campaign ran from March to June in 2010 and 2011.

Press releases, advertorials and commissioned articles appeared in newspapers

Radio adverts were aired on eight stations

Newsletters and pamphlets were distributed to schools

A rheumatic fever website was created

Rheumatic fever presentations for local GPs were also conducted at CME sessions

Lakes rheumatic fever awareness campaign
A community awareness campaign for rheumatic fever ran for three months from September to December 2009.
Posters and pamphlets were developed in te reo Maori and English.
A Whānau Ora Coordinator was employed through Korowai Aroha for three months and coordinated a forum to bring people with rheumatic fever together with clinicians, to learn more about their illness.
The coordinator also completed an evaluation of the administration of secondary prophylaxis and as a result District Nurses changed some of their practices to meet clients’ needs and wishes.
A contract was secured by RAPHS to develop a region-wide rheumatic fever register.
