Nutrition

Research shows that sedentary lifestyles, poor nutrition and obesity are directly impacting on the health, social and economic wellbeing of New Zealand.

Too many New Zealanders are becoming ill, developing disabilities or dying prematurely from preventable diseases and conditions. The data shows that the effects of diet-related diseases are a major cause of death in New Zealand and insufficient physical activity is a major risk factor for pre-mature death. Rates of obesity are higher for Maori and Pacific peoples than other New Zealand groups.

Toi Te Ora - Public Health Service is involved Fruit in Schools, Kai @ the Right Price, Workplace health and health and nutrition programmes which align with the New Zealand Ministry of Health’s Healthy Eating, Healthy Action strategy.
