Health Promoting Schools

Healthy children, kura and schools

Improving the health and well being of children is an effective way to improve learning outcomes and nurture a healthy community.

At Toi Te Ora  - Public Health Service our vision is for all schools, early childhood centres and kohanga reo to become health promoting environments, involving the whole school community in activities that promote health and well being.

Toi Te Ora - Public Health Service Health Promoting Schools programme is about linking health and well being to what is taught in the classroom and the social, cultural and physical environment of the school. This also includes policies and procedures and linking with community partners and organisations that can support the school. Referred to as the 'whole school approach', it means involving the whole school community in activities that promote health and well being.

Health Promoting Schools is a process and framework to enable schools to work in this way.  For more information, please visit the Health Promoting Schools website.

The Health Promoting Schools newsletter is sent out twice a year to all schools in the Bay of Plenty and Lakes region.
