Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is the best first food for all babies. The Ministry of Health recommends exclusive breastfeeding until babies are around six months old, with continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods until they are one year of age or beyond. Breastfeeding helps lay the foundations of a healthy life for a baby and also makes a positive contribution to the health and wider wellbeing of mothers and whānau/families.

Toi Te Ora - Public Health Service is committed to fostering the development of environments that support a health lifestyle.  Toi Te Ora- Public Health Service Breastfeeding Friendly accreditation project supports the normalisation of breastfeeding in public spaces for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
